Alto were appointed principal contractor on FCC & Kent Count Councils brand new household waste recycling centre in Kent.
The project won an award for Best use of design and technology at a waste management facility at the Awards for Excellence in Recycling & Waste Management 2022. The new centre is not only state of the art but also designed with the environment in mind featuring solar power, rainwater harvesting and tarmac containing recycled plastic material.
Alto were responsible for the entire design & build of the project which comprised of:
- A 60000m3 excavation of material to form the development platform
- Construction of the foul water drainage system and surface water drainage system including large attenuation crates storage tanks.
- Creation of large in-situ reinforced concrete retaining structures to create the different levels within the HWRC
- Installation of steel canopy & cladding
- M&E systems for the new facility
- Creation of large external concrete yards
- Installation of all fencing, including automated barrier systems for access control
- Erection of new modular buildings for the site team
- Construction of all new access roads and landscaping for site
