Beaumont Morgan Developments appointed Alto Construct to carry out the civils and external works element to the riverside on this residential development in the heart of Salford. Phases 2 and 3 comprise of 387 residential units sitting adjacent to the River Irwell. Due to the proximity of the River Irwell significant safety measures were put in place to ensure operatives were safe and weren’t able to fall into the fast-flowing river. These measures included the construction of a system of extensive concrete foundations and scaffolding, together with harnesses and movable lanyards.

The main elements of work included:

• Reconstruction of the riverside walkway.
• Construction of numerous reinforced concrete retaining walls.
• Construction of flood alleviation attenuation system.
• Installation of extensive surface water drainage systems.
• Construction of foul water pumping main.
• Sinking a 9m deep shaft and associated foul water pumping station.
• Construction of riverside walkway and associated paving and external works.
• Construction of new foul manhole in main artery road through Salford.
• Section 278 works including liaison with Statutory bodies.
